Doula Training Testimonials

Sandra Payne, Doula Student Fife, Scotland

I really enjoy the course. The info is really high quality and interesting, and I found many of the videos included very useful. The course made me even more convinced that I'd love to be a doula.

Anna Bailey, Doula Student, Jersey

Really enjoying the course so far. I'm finding it very easy to pick up at different times which is exactly what I need with two young children. It is also very well structured so I feel ill be able to apply the learning to practice.

The online doula training is a fantastic facility which allows you to study at home, in your own time and around your work and commitments. I was able to work at my own pace but with the constant support and encouragement of Marcia.  I would recommend this course to anyone who is looking into training as a doula but cannot find the time to get away from family or work commitments to attend the weeks training.

Steph Hawryla, Registered Antenatal, Birth and Postnatal Doula, Peterborough

I decided to become a doula at a rather busy time of life – while being mum to my 16 month little boy, Oren, and my 4 month baby girl, Willow!

During my pregnancy and early days/weeks/months of parenthood, I had to mostly rely on my partner for support, as I have no family and therefore very little of a support network. I had some complications during my second pregnancy, (including hyperemesis and SPD), as well some physical difficulties following the birth of my first child - and I think access to a Doula would really have changed my experience for the better.

However, I realised too late that a Doula would have been a real lifeline to me! Instead, I was left feeling a little isolated, and as though I had to be a superwoman. I began to feel very passionately that I wanted to be able to support other women so that they are not forced to take on too much - and instead they can just enjoy the journey they are on.

So while I had become very passionate about becoming a doula, going on a traditional training course at this time of my life was just impossible. I needed to find money not only to pay for the doula training, but also for the childcare for two babies! This alone was making my dream impossibility.

However, I then found out about accredited training through the University of Middlesex with Doula Consultancy Services. Not only was I very impressed at the idea of studying a formally accredited course, but they offered me a way of training which was going to make learning to be a doula accessible for me – I could study online!
Studying online was fantastic – I could log onto my course whenever the kids were down for a nap during the day, or on an evening once they had gone to bed. I could go study as quickly as I wanted, or take some sections more slowly. I worked through themed modules, completed exercises on those modules and then got feedback from my tutor before moving on to the next topics.

I completed my online training, and then was supported to complete my doula portfolio and attend as a Birth Doula. By the time I submitted by portfolio, I really felt like a doula – the skills, knowledge and empathy were all in place.

The training and support from Doula Consultancy Services made fulfilling my dream possible. I would highly recommend the online training course to anyone interested in becoming a doula, but who would find going away from home to train difficult. I
now use my doula skills through my own company Bump, Birth and Beyond. I am now doing a job which I love and am grateful to Doula Consultancy Services for giving me the opportunity and support to make a big change to my life.

Urnua Baby

I live in Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta with my husband and 3 kids.

Shortly after completing my BA in Psychology in 2003, I became pregnant with my first child. While most graduates were starting a career and gaining experience, I was at home with a new baby. I was determined to learn as much as I could, so that I could give my baby the best.

Over the next few years, I gave birth to two more children. I love being a mother and I absolutely love my kids. In hindsight, the past few years have been a wonderful training ground for a career as a doula. I have certainly found my training in psychology invaluable.

In April 2009, I flew to London, England to pursue high quality, academically based Doula training taught by Doula Consultancy Services, CIC.

Since returning, I have been working hard to complete the second stage requirements to attain my certification.  Once complete, my training will be accredited through Middlesex University in London.

It is my goal to make Doula care attainable for everyone who desires support in pregnancy, birth, and postpartum.

Birth is a mother's to give.  I do not have any preconceived idea of what a particular birth should look like.  Whether a birth is intervention-free or technologically advanced, I believe any birth can be empowered and beautiful.
