Throughout the  world, drinking alcohol  is a normal way of socialising. However, the regular consumption of alcohol carries a danger of serious health and social consequences relation to its intoxicating, dependence-producing properties.

Chronic illnesses  may develop in those who drink large amounts of alcohol over a number of years, alcohol use is also associated with an increased risk of acute health conditions, such as injuries, including from road traffic accidents and falls.

The National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence recommends that any professional that comes into contact with those suffering from Alcohol Dependency should attend alcohol awareness training.
